As the Class of 2027 settles into college and embarks on this exciting journey, we understand that the transition can sometimes be overwhelming, especially when it comes to facing your first college quiz or test. But don’t worry - our College Success Plan coaching team has your back with their 5 favorite tips for acing your first college exam!

1. Know Your Syllabus Inside Out:

  • Understand the grading policy, exam dates, and topics covered.

  • Note any required reading or study materials recommended by your professor.

2. Organize Your Notes:

  • Summarize and review your class notes, highlighting key concepts.

  • Create flashcards, mind maps, or outlines to reinforce your understanding.

3. Practice Time Management:

  • Set a study schedule that allows for breaks and review sessions.

  • Avoid cramming – spread your study sessions over several days.

4. Study Groups Can Be Your Lifesaver:

  • Collaborate with classmates to discuss concepts and solve problems (added bonus - make new friends!).

  • Take turns explaining topics to each other - putting things in your own words and listening when others do can solidify your understanding of the material.

5. Practice with Past Materials:

  • If available, review past quizzes, tests, or practice problems (hint - check every nook and cranny of your portal as professors often post practice exams, etc).

  • Familiarize yourself with the format and types of questions to expect.
